A teacher becomes a legend who creates the folklore of liberal arts, Liberal arts are not about tracing. Mapping is an act of reinvention; one explores, invents and rediscovers a territory. Pedagogy becomes crucial because it is the act of teaching that is the eventual educational act, a drama unfolding everyday around a canonical text, an invitation to re-reading, as an unfolding invention.

Established in 2006 under the leadership of Dr. Sunil K. Karad as the Institute of Design at MAEER's MIT, the Faculty of Design at MIT has been the pioneer in formalizing the education of Design. Ever since its inception, the Faculty of Design has striven towards excellence in teaching and building theoretical grounds for the Design profession. The Faculty of Design sees design as a cultural system that deals with all aspects of human evolution, the production of culture as well as unfolding of human imagination. Design is thus seen as an integrating force bringing together several streams of knowledge. The Faculty therefore adopts an interdisciplinary approach towards education in order to meet the cultural needs of the individual as well as the society at large.

The design habitat is located at Rajbaug in Loni Kalbhor, 20 kilometers on the Pune Solapur highway east of the city. The Rajbaug farms once owned by the legendary showman, Raj Kapur and now also his final resting place, is spread over 115 acres on the banks of the Mula Mutha River.
